The Travellers of Faera


Hello everyone!

We have made lots of progress in the last couple of weeks. We are in the process of finalising some crucial sections of the rulebook to help guide you through your adventure through the forests.

We would like to shine a light on character creation in The Forests of Faera, so check that out below. Also, Oliver has begun sketching some concept art for the characters that you play as in the game, and we would like to share some of them with you. Here you go!

Travellers

From towering giants to faeries no bigger than your thumbnail, Faera is home to all kinds of extraordinary creatures. Many of these creatures are happy to spend their days foraging, hunting, and tending to their own little corners of the forests, simply happy to live their best lives. These creatures often make their homes in the tallest trees, the thickest underbrush, and the deepest lakes to enjoy the whimsy of the forests, not venturing farther than a stone’s throw from their homes. Others enjoy a more animated life in The Grove—a lush, enchanted sanctuary deep in the forests.

Some fae creatures, however, are driven by a powerful wanderlust to explore the forests and lend their strength to those in need. These courageous travellers walk the forests from dawn to dusk, keeping them safe and helping out creatures wherever they can. You are one of these travellers!

Creating your Traveller

Creating your traveller in The Forests of Faera is easy! You choose your species, trade, instinct, and the gear you carry, then jump right into the game. You and your companion players will create your travellers together at the beginning of a session, introducing them to each other before the game begins. If you are ever unsure of anything, your Guide will be there to help.

  • Your traveller’s species determines their most obvious physical traits. This sets them apart from other travellers in unique ways, giving you more options during the game.
  • Your traveller’s trade gives them a special tool which they can use to overcome obstacles during their journey.
  • Your traveller’s instinct helps you to determine how they would behave in Faera and how they would react to the situations that they encounter.

These traits may be helpful in some circumstances during your travels, but also may hinder your efforts in others. Work together with your companions to travel through the forests safely, and you’ll be fine! (Probably.)

Traveller’s Pack

As a traveller, you have learned to travel light—carrying all of your gear in your traveller’s pack. You understand the value of being prepared for whatever you may face on your travels, and keep a few items tucked safely away amongst your gear until you need one.

Your gear consists of four items:

  • A tool of your trade, which you declare when you create your character.
  • A tasty snack, which you declare when you create your character.
  • A mysterious potion, which you declare when you need it.
  • A useful, mundane item, which you declare when you need it.

You can also carry a variety of trinkets that you happen to pick up on your adventure—small items that have sentimental or personal value to your character.

Like with your traveller’s traits, their gear can be used to help them overcome obstacles during their journey. However, you only have a few, so use them wisely!
